Our property has always been about family. From my grandfather building it, to my dad renovating it for our own wedding, to the countless families who’ve been formally bonded here- Overlook has always held our story.💕
🥳 So today, we’re celebrating two milestones: 10 years of Cliffside Barn and my dad’s 80th birthday.
Let’s talk about how Cliffside Barn came to be.
When David and I got married in 2015, we only had five months to renovate, so the hay barn stayed closed and we used Mary’s Meadow and Overlook Barn. The next year, we focused on transforming that old hay barn into a beautiful space for indoor ceremonies, cocktail hour, and small receptions.
Leading up to August, I kept telling my dad, Cliff, that we had to finish it because we’d promised it to a couple. Meanwhile, he and I went back and forth on names. He insisted on “Chapel Barn.” I insisted on… something else I can’t even remember now, because the whole time I knew exactly what its name would be: Cliffside Barn.
As the deadline approached, I kept pushing him to get it done. He was stressed, determined, and fully convinced we were racing toward a wedding.
The weekend “of the event” finally arrived — and to his complete surprise, it was a 70th birthday party for him complete with his friends and family, live bluegrass, a ton of desserts (IYKYK), and an official Cliffside Barn naming ceremony. A true Elder-family classic: some teasing, plenty of annoyance, and a whole lot of heart.

And more importantly, happy 80th, Dad. 🫶
