The truth about styled shoots! 👇

🙅‍♀️Truth be told, some vendors aren’t into them— they are time consuming, take a lot of effort and resources, and don’t always have an outlet or purpose.

💭But!….

🥳 Can we just say we love them??

💪We are in an industry with incredibly creative people and styled shoots allow them to unleash that creativity without guidelines from their clients. Do you know how cool it is to see what creative makers come up with?? 🤯

📸We also love them for showcasing different parts of our property or getting some really awesome shots that we can request from the photographer (this goes for other vendors as well- there’s a major focus on highlighting vendors’ work in styled shoots. ⛰️

Styled shoots also frequently bring to us vendors we haven’t worked with in the past. We have had planners and photographers who are new-to-us reach out to plan styled shoots here in the past. Usually by the end of it, we’re in awe of their professionalism and skill and are ready to sing their praises to work with them again.

💡If you’re a vendor who wants to work with a venue or another vendor, I highly recommend reaching out to offer collaborating!

I realize we`ve done a little bit of a disservice to our beautiful mountain community. Hurricane Helene took her toll on this area and we were vocal about ways to give and respect the communities as they rebuilt without visitors crowding the roads. And that’s exactly what people did— our communities rebuilt and people gave and we are forever grateful for that ✨🫶

Now, we need to be vocal about something else: our little mountain towns and our big mountain towns are ready for visitors. Not just ready, but yearning for the visitors who love them and bring in energy and commerce to them. After an autumn that didn’t bring in the usual tourism this community depends on, restaurants, accommodations, and local retail shops could use all the business they can get.

Not only that, but our towns really light up (literally and figuratively) in the winter. Banner Elk has a beautiful holiday stroll for visitors, Ski Beech is bustling and open, and Boone’s downtown is bright with holiday lights ✨. It’s a win-win to visit now.

💌 Our primary season is April-November so we will only be open for elopements or microweddings this winter, but we’d love if you tagged your favorite local establishment in the comments below to give them more visibility this season! And, go ahead and book that mountain trip! 🗓️⛰️

Summer lovin`, had me a blast. 💛

💍Engagement season is here, and I`m noticing a trend. Many couples are looking for Spring or Fall dates; which makes total sense because we are in NC and people associate June-August with the heat of summer 🥵. *But* we are different 🤔👇

⛰️ we are on top of Beech Mountain at an elevation of over 5,000 feet and we enjoy breezy mountain days up here in the summer. 🍃

So, if you are recently engaged and would love to get everyone together in the summer to celebrate with you, consider a long weekend here in the NC Mountains! Imagine your guests making a mini vacation out of it and enjoying white water rafting, hiking, golfing, lazy rivers, and hanging outdoors at wineries-- no sweat 😉

✨ Before Overlook Barn Was Born ✨

David and I are celebrating 10 years since our engagement this week, and it’s bringing back so many incredible memories—some that planted the seeds of Overlook Barn. 💍

When we got engaged, we knew we wanted to marry in the beautiful mountains of NC, where I’m from—but we *never* imagined we’d end up creating our own wedding venue. (Spoiler alert: dreams evolve in the best ways! 😉)

📸 One of the sweetest moments from our engagement session was capturing a photo with my incredible 104-year-old grandmother at her home in Banner Elk. Including her in this milestone was such a special decision—highly recommend. 🥹

We also took Michelle Lyerly up to what would become Overlook Barn—just six weeks before our wedding. If you look closely, you’ll see it was far from the polished venue it is now. 🙈 Think: holes in the walls, rocks everywhere, and an unrenovated Cliffside Barn. But those photos captured the heart of it all: love, excitement, and big dreams for our future—and for Overlook’s. ✨
